The World Dementia Council has launched a new paper presenting reflections from international dementia leaders in the field of research. As part of the dementia landscape project series of global dialogues, this essay collection follows the dialogue held in November 2020 looking at blood-based biomarkers and advances in treatments.
The dialogue, chaired by Dr Maria Carrillo and Professor Philip Scheltens, included nearly 50 prominent scientists and researchers. The paper features introductions from both co-chairs, in addition to contributions from other participants addressing the challenges ahead for the global community in accelerating better diagnosis and advancing new treatments.
Essay contributors are Professor Henrik Zetterberg (University of Gothenburg), Fiona Carragher (Alzheimer's Society), Dr Christopher Chen (National University of Singapore), Dr Husseini Manji (Johnson & Johnson) Dr Ivan Koychev (University of Oxford), Professor Jeffrey Cummings (University of Nevada Las Vegas), Professor Bart De Strooper (UK Dementia Research Institute) and Ernst van Koesveld (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, The Netherlands).
The global dialogues in the series are being held to help track progress made since the world’s first G8 dementia summit was held in 2013 in London. It was here that the international community of top scientists in the field, research funders, pharmaceutical companies and governments committed to accelerate the research agenda and deliver the first disease-modifying treatment by 2025 (a primary aim of the 2025 goals).
