On 11th and 12th December 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) held an international meeting in Geneva on implementation of the Global Action Plan on the Public Health Response to Dementia 2017-2025 (GAP). The meeting included presentation of the newly-launched Global Dementia Observatory (GDO) and e-tool.

World Dementia Council welcomes essential step in global fight against dementia

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched the Global Dementia Observatory, an international surveillance platform that will monitor progress around the world in meeting global aims to defeat dementia set out in the WHO Global action plan for the public health response to dementia, which was endorsed by the World Health Assembly in May 2017.

World Dementia Council welcomes boost for research on disease-modifying therapies - Bill Gates joins battle against Dementia

Respected philanthropist Bill Gates has invested $50 million in the Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF). This is Mr Gates’ first investment in dementia research, and a personal one, sparked by experience of Alzheimer’s in his family, which, in turn, spurred him to spend time learning about the disease. Alzheimer’s is the most common of the diseases causing the symptoms of dementia.
